Nicola Graviano

Deputy Director, Migration Dialogues and Cooperation

ICMPD

Nicola Graviano is Deputy Director of the Migration Dialogues and Cooperation (MDC) Directorate at ICMPD. He has extensive experience on migration governance having worked on strategic management, donor liaison and programme implementation in Belgium, Mali, Iraq and Canada. He oversaw IOM’s global portfolio on return and reintegration in Headquarters for six years and coordinated several UN thematic workstreams in these areas. In his last assignment before joining ICMPD, Graviano was Chief of Mission for El Salvador and Honduras, supporting governments on migration policies development, coordinating operational activities and launching innovative initiatives related to capacity building, research and direct assistance to migrants and displaced populations. In this capacity, he was awarded by the Government of El Salvador with the National Order of José Matías Delgado. Graviano studied Political Science in Florence, Italy. He holds a master’s in Migration Studies and Intercultural Mediation from the Universities of Venice, Barcelona and Montpellier. He also has a postgraduate in International Politics from the Free University of Brussels.
