Amr Elsherbiny

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs and International Security

Amr Elsherbiny has served as Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security since September 2025. In the Egyptian Foreign Service since 1995, he was previously Ambassador to Qatar (2021–2025), Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for the UN (2020–2021) and for Migration, Refugees and Combatting Human Trafficking (2019–2020), and Deputy Chief of Mission in Brussels in charge of EU/NATO (2015–2019). He also served as Director of the UN Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2011–2015), Counsellor at Egypt’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York (2006–2011), Adviser on Arab Affairs at the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2003–2006), Political Officer at Egypt's Embassy in Damascus (1999–2003), and Third Secretary at the Department of Multilateral and International Organisations (1996–1999). At the UN, he was elected Rapporteur of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (C34) and Vice Chair of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPDC) of the General Assembly. He participated in several high-level African, Arab, and international meetings and summits, with a focus on international peace and security, conflicts in Africa and the Middle East, migration, forced displacement, and politico-military issues in the Mediterranean.
